Vincent van Gogh?? What.....?

I am writing a biography on Vincent van Gogh, however, I need to know why he was so inspiring. After his death, why did he become so famous and what makes his paintings so special if he only sold two paintings in his life? I see the beauty in his work, but i would still like to understand.
