How is the theme 'belonging' seen in the painting "starry night" by Van Gogh?

There have been so many intepretations of this picture and, as you say correctly, that he painted the scene from imagination (a very rare thing for him to do). But the heavens and the stars (number given religious significance by some historians), and the beautiful sky, with the little town below, in my opinion is not part of his imaginary world, but expresses his sense of belonging to the universe, the rhythm of the nature, day turned to night etc.The peace and beauty of nature. Not to any imaginary world, but to this world.
